Log to a Different USB than Boot USB

If you would like to log to a different USB than the one you are booting from, you can do the following:

Standalone:

The following is to configure this feature via the settings in the GUI:

1. Navigate to the options screen by pressing the 'Options' button in the top left of the drive selection screen.

2. Select the 'Log Types and Destinations' tab and ensure that a log file type has been selected.

3. On the right, under the 'Log Destination' section of the screen, ensure that the 'Save log files to:' option is checked. Then in the box below, also select the option 'Removable Drive'.

4. Once those options have been selected, the option 'Tag filename' will become active. Select this option and in the neighboring text box, enter in the name for a tag file that you will create. For this example, it will be 'tag.txt'.

NOTE: If wiping other USB drives or external drives that are attached via USB, then you may want to consider enabling the option 'Non-tagged removables on drive list'

5. On a machine running an Operating System, create a text file with the name used in step 4 (tag.txt) and place it on the USB you wish to log to. Once you have done that, plug this USB into the machine running WipeDrive.

6. Once the newly tagged USB is plugged back into the machine, press 'Accept Settings' in the bottom right-hand corner and you are good to begin your wipe.

The following is to configure this feature via the wd-options.cfg file:

NOTE: It is recommended to have USB logging set up automatically in the config file to avoid potential spam from 'Can't find the USB' errors. If you have any questions about creating or receiving a custom build, please contact Support.

1. In the wd-options.cfg file, you need to add the following options.

        log-file-types=x

        log-directory=removable

        log-removable=tag.txt

NOTE: If wiping other USB drives or external drives that are attached via USB, then you may want to consider adding the following option.

        allow-non-tagged-removables-to-be-wiped=true

2. On a machine running an Operating System, create a text file with the name used in step 1 for option 'log-removable' (tag.txt) and place it on the USB you wish to log to.

3. Place the newly configured wd-options.cfg file onto the bootable USB containing WipeDrive and plug in the USB you have set for logging. Run the software as normal and logging should configured.
